Egypt Like We Have Never Seen

Phone, internet blocked in Egypt was a criminal act by the authoritarian regime that suppressed the people in Egypt for 30 years, it was their last hope to stop people from transferring videos and images of the brutality of the regime with the protestors. The Egyptian police was shooting people and martyrs reached to more than 400 people between the 25th and the 29th of jan. The only way to knew what is going on in egypt was to sit in home and watch the news, as phones and internet were blocked and that what the regime wanted but people didn't give them what they wanted they went and fought for their freedom and they never stopped until the collapse of the regime.

Media is a very powerful way to transfer information, we can see the Muslim brotherhood gaining a lot of supporters since the revolution  as they are very active on facebook and twitter and they even won the majority seats in the parliament elections. The official facebook page of the Muslim brotherhood has more than 250,000 people following it, which means that their media publicity is very powerful.

Are you human ?

Very graphic video !

A picture can say a lot about a situation, but what can prove a point is a video. The above picture shows how brutality was used against Egyptian protestor who was peacefully showing that he is not happy about what is happing in the internal affairs of the country. The picture captured an ARMY officer who is stepping on him and beating him till he's forehead started bleeding. The picture angle was very good as it showed how the young man was hurting and how was he bleeding, but not only that, it also shows an ARMY officer using his gun against civilians. The picture could have been better if the shot was wider as behind the officers there was a group whom were beating a young woman and took off her clothes. The full incident of the picture is shown in the video, but it is a very graphic video, so don't open it in the company of children.

The Greatest Blog Ever Made

Morgan Spurlock has delivered a fascinating satire of the process of placing products into movies and the ubiquitous nature of advertising in our society. He takes us inside the process by showing us what it takes to make a movie and to gain corporate sponsorship for it. He allows us to see the process by getting corporations to underwrite his movie about product placement. He uses humor to point to the insidious way into which advertising has slipped into film-making and become a major part of its profit model of film making. By putting it into a documentary form, Spurlock has taken the critique to a new level. The sponsoring companies will likely benefit through their association with his humorous critique of corporate America. The movie-going public will benefit if they become more cognizant of the pervasive nature advertising in films. Spurlock has shown us yet again that it is much easier to get the public to listen to critiques our economic system if they are delivered with a good-natured sense of humor.

Product Placement

As with any advertising, its effectiveness tends to be assumed because advertisers continue to use product placement as a marketing strategy. However, some consumer groups such as commercial alert object to the practice as "an affront to basic honesty" that they claim is too common in today's society. In the above video, Iphone placed their product in the famous animated series the simpsons, as it gained reputation for its funny characters, iphone decided to place their product. While in the picture we see the very famous piccadilly square and advertisements all over the buildings. Piccadilly square is a very famous square in london and its a very crowded touristic place, so placing the product their is a very smart move for any company.

Gain Your Freedom

The picture shows a crowd of Egyptians praying just in-front of the Egyptian police. In Islam, praying means that your peaceful, and that you should never interrupt someone praying because he's standing infront of God. The Egyptian police didn't care if they are praying or not, they just started beating them and threw water on them trying to push them away. Furthermore, in the video there is a police car hitting civilians walking on their legs and it hits one person walking and he died. Both, the picture and the video were not in favor of the egyptian police that they leaked as people by then were absolutely sure that the regime and the cops were not protecting the people, but they were there just to suppress the opposition. The photo was all over the social networking websites and it encouraged people to go to Tahrir square and gain their freedom.

Homework #3. Advertising Fast Food

The ad is a kind of testimonial as they used Messi the famous football player to sell the product even if he has nothing to do with KFC. Black color used in the background is used for luxury and psychologically viewers get hungry when they see dark colors. The Fuhrerprinzip technique is also used in this ad as we hear the commentator saying "thats Messi's recipe" and we hear the fans chanting. The ad is trying to challenge people to try the extremely hot chicken that they are offering. The use of the arabic music and Burj el Arab in the commercial could be an advertisement for Dubai or the targeted people are Arabs.

Is Smoking Worth IT ?

Smoking in Egypt has many rules accompanied by it, for anyone to sell a pack of cigarettes the above picture has to be attached to the pack. The picture shows a man who has troubles with his lungs because of smoking. The purpose of the picture is to let people scared of smoking and statistics in egypt showed that cigarettes companies lost 7% of their consumers after introducing the pictures. While the video shows a little boy who lost his mom for minutes. The main purpose of the ad is to tell smokers that smoking is not worth losing your life for it. Its sending a message to the smokers who have kids, they are trying to show them that their family would suffer too.

Corrupt Media

After the fall of the Tunisian regime in January 2011, the logical thing for any newspaper is to put that significant news on its front page with a full headline. However, the Egyptian state news is standing on its own as usual, instead of putting the news as a headline, they decided to Hosny Mubarak's achievements as a headline and say that he offered more than 10,000 new houses and more than 10,000 new jobs for the Egyptian people. As we all know that the headline is supposed to be for the more significant news that happened, and I don't think that anyone would think that Mubarak's achievements are more important that the falling of a corrupt regime.
The Egyptian state TV was not very different from their newspapers. All the world were watching what was happening during the Egyptian revolution, but they state TV didn't think that its worth watching. During the whole month of the revolution, the state TV didn't show once the scene in Tahrir square, instead they kept referring to the people there as "thugs", "foreigners" and "traitors". The lame attempt to twist the truth didn't affect the people and they kept on revolting.

Egyptian Revolution Catalyst

Very graphic Video for Egyptian Police Brutality
Khaled Saeed is the Egyptian hero who was killed, because he didnt want the police to check his belongings which they always do and their motive is the emergency law which every Egyptian citizen complains about. When Khaled complained to the police for searching him, they took him to a dark alley and they started beating him up. When he passed out they took him away to see what happened  to him, and when they found out that he was dead they fabricated a story that he was a drug addict and drug dealer and a lot of other lies. The picture shows Khaled before and after the beating. The video is a very graphic video that shows the police brutality when dealing with captured criminals, which the Egyptian people found very disturbing and decided to revolt against the whole regime.

The Attack That Changed The World

9/11
Since September 11, 2001 The United States of America has been fighting a never ending fight against terrorism. The fight that you can never win, but you are the only loser for it. I personally believe that former president George Bush used the fight against terrorism to secure reelection for presidential campaign. Bush encouraged stereotyping by fighting Osama Bin Laden and picturing him and all his followers as Muslims with long beards. The capturing of Muslims with long beards for security reasons became famous in USA and people started believing that all Muslims are terrorists.

Racism

Black Ethiopian slaves
Color racism is very dominant in many countries. We can see media encouraging color racism by always portraying black people as drug dealers and trouble makers. It became almost a formality when you see a black guy in an movies, you immediately think that he will do something bad or he'll kill someone. The above picture shows a police officer hand-cuffing a black guy. Its a seen we have gotten used too from movies. While the video shows how black people were held as slaves and were sold for money. I believe that the media encouraged stereotyping black people as trouble makers, through movies and others.

Sell Your Body ?

Shakira's hit video clip
Should women wear almost nothing to be sexy ? Should musical video clips be as shakira's video clip (she's wearing almost nothing, and she's kissing a famous tennis player) ? Shakira's video clip got almost 16 million views on youtube. The media wants people to see shakira as sexy because she's wearing almost nothing, but I frankly think that it is degrading to women and it is not how women should look like. What about Jennifer Aniston's magazine cover, is that the proper way to sell a magazine ? Don't you think that women are smarter and could be seen in a much descent way.
